Hi there! I’m so glad you’re here.
My name is Edie Meeks. I am an oil painter in Maple Grove, Minnesota, living with my husband Jacob and my daughter Emmie. I’ve been blessed to travel many places throughout my life and I always use my own photos from my travels as the inspiration behind my paintings. I primarily paint landscapes and the intricacies of nature. I come from a long line of creators in my family and I have always been encouraged to paint. One of my earliest memories is finger painting at an easel when I was three years old. Drawing and painting always gave me a sense of fulfillment and joy; so I decided to study art in college. I received a BA in fine arts in 2016 from Harding University in Arkansas.
I had all the best intentions after graduating. But being an artist is extremely vulnerable. You put your heart, ideas and gifts out there for the world to see. I don’t know which is more scary. Believing everyone will see the work you’ve done, or that no one ever will. This very thought kept me from pursuing a career as an artist for a time. Yet, I kept feeling that tug to paint. But without a purpose behind what I do, how could I justify doing it? One day, several years after graduating with no current plans to paint, I remembered a quote from Michelangelo. When asked why he was working so hard on a dark corner of the chapel that no one would ever see, Michelangelo replied, “God will”. And there it was, right in front of me. The purpose behind all I do. God gave me the talent and desire to paint. How could I not trust that He would use the gift he gave me. In that moment, I knew He was asking me to get to work and start painting again. But this time I felt purpose. That’s why I’m here. It’s why I paint. Laying acrylic wash and oils to canvases. Using the nature I’ve explored as inspiration. I hope to bring the beauty of creation into your home and transport you to a place you long to see.
